NewGen Surgical attended the Sustainable Brands conference in Detroit, May 22-25, by invitation as a finalist in the Innovation Open competition. SB ’17, themed “Redefining the Good Life”, attracted thousands of business leaders across various industries, organizational types and sizes, and corporate functions, who are reshaping the future of commerce worldwide. As KoAnn Vikoren Skrzyniarz, the Founder & CEO of Sustainable Brands, explains in her welcome letter to attendees, Sustainable Brands has “been making the case that embedding environmental and social purpose into the core of a brand is the future of business.”

With over 40 applicants, 21 quarterfinalists and 11 semi-finalists this year, the 2017 Innovation Open competition, culminating at SB ’17, attracted world-changing entrepreneurial teams with unique ideas to solving some of the world’s pressing environmental and social concerns. “The Innovation Open aims to recognize innovative tools and solutions that are driving environmental and social impact,” says Riley Scherer, Manager at Sustainable Brands. “These entrepreneurs seek to disrupt and the Sustainable Brands community embraces that passion. The ideas that will come to light from these contenders will spark conversations and inspiration for even the most advanced brands.”

“As a startup with a clear mission to develop sustainable surgical products for greening the O.R., NewGen Surgical was honored to be among the 11 semi-finalists in the Innovation Open,” said Rob Chase, President of NewGen Surgical.

In its 6th year, the Innovation Open provides an opportunity for next generation brands to showcase their innovative solutions to today’s pressing challenges, as well as connect and collaborate with multi-national brands, accelerators and thought leaders in sustainability.

The SB Innovation Open at SB’17 Detroit was co-sponsored by Whirlpool. Sustainable Brands conference began in 2007 in the U.S. and has grown to over 2,000 in attendance.
